November’s Spirited Life Quote:

“People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for Life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonance within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive. That’s what it’s all finally about. ~ Joseph Campell

May’s Spirited Life Quote:

A friend told me that during a time of change and transition in her life, her spiritual director told her this:

“Plant your two feet firmly in the air!”

This is a wonderful invitation to us! It acknowledges how unsettling  transition can be, how it is a leap of faith to make a change, and how important it is to stay firmly aligned within ourselves – even through the “flying through the air” feeling. May we all keep our feet firmly planted in the air until we touch back on solid ground.

April’s Spirited Life Moment

Jill Bolte Taylor experienced a massive stroke at the age of 37. The Harvard-trained brain scientist, she had to re-learn how to walk, read, and write. Her experience of the stroke and eight-year recovery are chronicled in her book, My Stroke of Insight. This quote inspires me:

“The try is everything…I may have to try, try, and try again with no results for a thousand times before I get even an inkling of a result, but if I don’t try, it may never happen.”

On the Air Sponsorship:

Sent in by Patricia, this is in memory of Patricia’s first cousin once removed, Arlie Treuchl. Arlie was born 100 years ago of immigrant parents, lived an isolated life and died of tuberculosis at the age of 25. The records indicated that Arlie was presumed to have been “feeble-minded” as it was called at the time, but this was probably an incorrect assumption as Patricia’s research revealed that Arlie could read and write. When Arlie died, after this short and difficult life, she was buried in an unmarked grave. Patricia asks that Arlie Treuchl be held in our consciousness and honored for her humanity.

Shout-Out Sponsorship:

We recognize, honor, and send blessings to all who are healing from last year’s Boston Marathon trauma.

March’s Spirited Life Moment

The inspiration for this moment comes from a quote by the Irish playwright, poet, and novelist Oscar Wilde who said, “Be yourself; everyone else is taken.”

I’d always appreciated Wilde’s biting wit, but not realized how powerful this statement was until I read about Wilde’s challenging and difficult life. He was tried and imprisoned for being gay. “Being yourself” must have been a tremendous challenge for him, and I admire his courage.

February’s Spirited Life Moment

We honor Thich Nhat Hahn – the Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, teacher, author, poet and peace and human rights activist who is one of the best-known and most respected Zen masters in the world today. He is perhaps most known for his prolific writings (over 100 books) on meditation, mindfulness, and peace.

Thich Nhat Hanh’s key teaching is that, through mindfulness, we can learn to live happily in the present moment and that this is the only way to truly develop peace, both in one’s self and in the world.

This quote from Thich Nhat Hanh was used in the February broadcast, “The Tapestry of Love”

“The most precious gift we can offer someone is our attention. When mindfulness embraces those we love, they will bloom like flowers.”

January’s Spirited Life Moment

We honor Nelson Mandela, the South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, activist and philanthropist who died on Dec. 5, 2013

In this first Spirited Life Moment, we honor Nelson Mandela and the tremendous legacy he leaves us. We honor the spirit of two empowering words: YOU CAN and acknowledge all the moments when we choose to do what we can to help change the moment we’re in, change the world.
